The Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre is often considered the pride of the country. In its work, it demonstrates quality, excellent technique, dedication and high-class professionalism of performances, which is the result of several centuries of continuous hard work and aspirations to achieve such standards.The theatre season lasts 10 months (September-June). The repertory of each season typically consists of about 25 operas and ballets, with about 250 performances altogether. The whole theatre company held guest performances in Moscow, St Petersburg, Riga and Warsaw. The ballet troupe danced in Germany and the Netherlands and participated in festivals in Bosra and Athens, the Cervantino Festival in Mexico, the 4th Dance Festival in Leverkeusen, and in Duisburg. The opera troupe performed in Germany, the Netherlands, in Le Roncole (Verdi's birthplace) and the Savonlinna Festival in Finland. The present-day building of the Lithuanian Opera and Ballet Theatre was opened in 1974. The symbol of the theatre is a green rue branch. These are facts, but if you want to really experience the delight you can get from the performances of talented actors, singers and dancers, visiting the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre is the suggestion.   A coach trip to Trakai, the former capital of the Grand Duchy of  Lithuania, nestled in a picturesque region of lakes, forests and hills 25 km from Vilnius, includes a visit to Trakai Castle, the spectacular complex of defensive fortifications of the 15th century erected on the island in the lake Galvė. Today it houses the Historical and Applied Art Museum with an ethnographical exposition of Karaites, the small ethnic minority living in Trakai till nowadays.  Price: 59 EUR p/person. The price includes: transport, guide, entrance ticket to Trakai castle.
